I really loved the photograph of Puja against the car- it reminds me of high-fashion shoots. During the movie I always wanted to keep track of her progress, and I think I was rooting for her above anyone else to make it out of the brothels. That sounds bad, but she really reminded me of this girl that I babysit for- she was so sassy. And there's something so gorgeous about this shot- how all the shades are crisp and clear, the focus gorgeous. Though I loved a lot of the photos for their stunning colors, I don't think this needed any. It's more than effective in a simple black and white. When I watched the film I was extremely touched by the lives of these children. I know that as a whole, myself and people from this school had extremely priviledged childhoods, but I wasn't completely aware of every reach that we were saved from. These kids lived in hell (some of them still do) and that concept is so sad. I wanted to save them myself. And while they were in these horrible situations, that absolutely no one should have to grow up through, they maintained so much of what our childhoods were- full of wonder and curiousity and creativity. It's amazing how strong they were that they could keep their innocence in a world so opposed to it. ~Charlotte Chapin
This photo has matching colors, simple and complex areas, and vibrant interesting colors. I love how the photo doesnt just include the wall behind the girl but a little bit of the world behind her. It makes you wonder where she is, what she is doing there, and what connection it has to the little girl. The photo also shows some kind of culture by her clothing. Her facial expression looks forced. She looks like she is trying to look happy for the picture but maybe there is more behind it. The truth behind theses kids is that they all live horrible lives and photography can help them escape for a while. I thought the film was very inspiring but sad. It just makes me think about how fortunate i am and what I can do to help others. Its hard when issues involving these kids happen so far away and there isnt much you can do. The girl who teaches them to take photos found something she could do to help. I particularly like this photo for many reasons. One reason I like this image is because all of the children look so happy and are really enjoying themselves. This is positive because of the lives they lead which are hard for children of their age. The image also looks sort of abstract because of the background. The background looks like it has been twisted and is crooked. The background is also out of focus so that you can still see what is going on but you pay more attention to just the children. The placement of the kids in the photo is most likely not deliberate but it looks professional with the two girls over to the side and then the boy more towards the center. Overall, I found the film interesting. I thought that the best part was hearing about what happened to the children when they had all grown up and was happy to know that some of them went on to improve their lives while they had the chance.
This image taken by one of the children in the brothels is my favorite for various reasons. First off, i like how the image is black and white rather than in color, because the viewer is still able to get a strong feeling from this image without bright colors to show details. The high contrast and placement of all the objects in the photograph makes it visually interesting to the viewer, for example the placement of the car in the corner of the photo. It runs off the image, leading the eye in different directions. The girl running also adds creativity and curiosity to the photograph. It makes the viewer wonder where she is running too, or if she is running from something. The photographer managed to allow the girl to be clear, as well as the surroundings clear as well.
I enjoyed the video Born into Brothels, not only becuase it was suspencful and intruiging but it also had parts of it that were happy and hopeful. It is a very moving video and just by watching and i wanted to see more of the children's work and know what happened to them beyond just the film. Having it be a topic that many people dont know about, it allows the film to be very interesting and moving, which is why i enjoyed it as much as i did. It opens the eye to a different point of view as far as photography goes, and i appreciate being able to see such a different and unique way of seeing this.

The picture of the hope valley were the girls can have a place of calm really stood out o me. it shows that there is hope for them and they are not alone in there current situation. they created it so that 100 girls could feel safe and get away from the traggic life in the brothels. they can go here and be open and express any sort of stress and grief that they are experiencing and feel that state of calm that they once had. randy krupnick
I truly enjoyed the video since it captures the human eye and showed us if we are going thru tought times. that we arent the only ones expereinceing a sense of tough times. it was a touching video to see such young kids workign and living in these enviorments. the movie also was moving because these kids are so young and do not know from right and wrong. they went thru alot with testing of diseases such as aids and hiv. overall the movie was enjoyable. randy krupnick
I enjoy this photograph for many reasons. First, in the kids situation that they live in, it appears they are enjoying themselves. The kids are making their lives emjoyable, even though they do not have much money or resources, the kids are enjoying their lives. Also, i like how the kids and their smiles are the main focus, while there are other objects and people that are blurry in the backround. The black and white and the contrast of the photo also is appropiate for the photo. I feel as if the picture were in color, the true essence of the photo would mot be apparent.
The documentary was not one of my favorites. Although i do feel bad for the kids, and i am happy that they got to take pictures, i felt as the documentary was very boring. I felt it was dry and could have been located in any poor village somewhere in the world. Watching the living sitautins though and seeing how there daily lives were spent, i felt bad for the kids and wish them a betten life through photography. PAUL ADAMS
I like this photo for a few reasons. First of all, it was taken from an up close, straight on point of view. The photographer placed the focal point (the man) a little to the left of the center of the frame, adding to the visual composition of the photo. The picture shows a small piece of life in India, exemplifying the main way of transportation, walking. The truck in the middle ground adds color to the photo as well as making it more interesting to look at. Lastly, the photo shows us how people dressed, often in ragged clothes or dresses, and for those reasons this photo is interesting to me.
I enjoyed the documentary film we watched in class. I found that the film informed us as viewers on the lives of those less fortunate than us, and more specificly the lives of those living in brothels. The film gave me a small yet informative sense of what it is like for the children and adults born and living in brothels. It showed how hard their lives were and what they have to go through every day. The video caused me to realize how fortunate we are, for there are kids in India being born with all sorts of diseases, into families that can not raise their children properly, and in horrible, unsanitary conditions.

I really like this photo because it s a quick snapshot but it shows a lot of emotion. The young girl’s face is full of excitement and hope. The bright yellow taxicab creates an interesting frame around her face. I also like how the sun is reflecting on top of the car. The hand pointing at the girl draws the eye to the girl and creates some depth. I like how you can only really see the girl, the car and the hand and not that much else because it makes the picture appear, bright, cheerful and sunny. If you zoomed out and were able to see the whole picture you would probably see the poor, dirty and dark streets that make up the red light district. I think it would take away from the uplifting feel that the photo has when it only has the car and the girl.
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was informative and showed a great deal of insight on a different and troubling part of the world. Although it was dark and had some troubling scenes, I think it also showed some light and hopeful scenes. It also shows what a little support and creativity can do for a young child. I think it was a good mix of the terrible life living in the brothel but it was also cheerful and encouraging. I thought the end was sad for some kids how they ended up back in the brothel but it shows how difficult it is to get out of that kind of life and world. Overall, I thought it was interesting from the photographic perspective but also just the lives of the kids and their stories were interesting.

In this photo there are two bunnies chasing each other. I really liked this photo because when I saw it made me feel happy and cheered me up from all the other harsh and disturbing photos. I also liked this photo because the whole picture is very dark except from the bright white rabbits and it is like they are almost glowing. The photographer was clearly focusing in on the two rabbits while using a very good black and white contrast. This picture is also an action shot because the rabbits are walking forward. The kids were always being treated poorly and this picture shows that they could at least play with these rabbits to help them cope with all the other harsh treatment.
I really like Born into Brothels because it was not only inspiring but it showed how nothings impossible and if you work hard you can achieve anything that you want. This documentary also showed me how kids across the county are living and how hard they work. I think the message of the film was to never quit no matter what you’re going through or how others treat you. ~John Pendergast~
This photograph is my favorite for several reasons. One being the fact that this photo incorporates the children, and in their natural environment, the old and chipping building in the background. The main reason i like this photo is because the children are smiling, and even laughing. These smiles are so important because it reveals happiness and a remainder of childhood, in the difficult and painful lives of these children. I really enjoyed the movie because it did not attempt to hide the reality of the brothels. These children and the other children in the brothels and around the world live incredibly hard lives, and look to a future of struggles and pain as well. So it made me happy to see the opportunities given to some of these children to pursue their talents and go to better schools. The movie really made me have an even greater appreciation for the opportunity and love that i was born into. -Kelly Lange
This photo by Kochi is really captivating to me. It is not only a silhouette, but displaying a depth of field as well. The whole left and right side of the image is utter darkness, not being in focus. The contrast of the primarily black image and the light coming from outside through the window is remarkable. Seeing the photo creates a feeling of sadness and despair because you feel bad for this child sitting alone in the darkness. Unfortunately, it captures the essence of life in the Brothels. Without this strong emotion in the picture, it may just be dull, say if it was just a flower in the dark room. The barred window also accentuates the feeling of sadness of the child, almost as if they are trapped inside and cannot play in the brightness.
Overall, I really enjoyed watching the documentary Born into Brothels because it opened your eyes to real, innopportune circumstances. The poor children did not choose a life of hardship for themselves, and in most cases there is nothing they can do about it, forced to live a life without opportunity. Although this movie was extremely sad, it was nice to watch how much photography meant to them and could give them hope of having an alternate choice in life. Seeing the poverty also made me realize how lucky we are and sometimes take advantage of how fortunate we as Americans actually are. It is hard to believe that education isn't even an option for most of these children. Hopefully one day more and more children will be able to escape the everday horrors of Brothels life. -Courtney Fraser
I like this particular photo because it seems to showcase a message of pure joy. Throughout the documentary, the kids were shown in difficult family situations however this photo captures something beyond what we over in America hear about them. It captures their happiness and relaxation rather than focusing on the negatives in their life. Additionally, when speaking artistically, the composition itself is so unique. Capturing motion from the bucket’s water, the children and the waves, yet also leaving a large part of the photo as the sky, still and calm; the picture is inspiring. I enjoyed the film itself. I have never seen a documentary like this, or any documentary on people before. It opened my eyes to children beyond this continent. In my opinion, the message it was trying to send was one of hope, and the ability to make a difference. The one photographer touched the lives of all those children positively and strived to help them escape their hard lives or their futures before them. I liked how the children’s pictures were shown and they were very open with their feelings. My favorite part was when the kids saw their pictures on display and were so proud and pleased. This image is one of my favorites in the set. I love how the only source of light is coming through the window with the bars on it. The silhouette of the girl in the window is beautiful as well. I feel that the very dark photograph along with the girls bowed head gives the photo a feeling of sorrow and remembrance. However, it is a peaceful feeling. Almost as if she is finding a place of quiet in the hectic life of the brothel.
I enjoyed watching this documentary. It really struck me how real it all seemed. Living in Medfield, sometimes it is hard to remember that there actually is struggle out in the world, and even children have to face terrible realities in life. In our community it is easy to forget that not everything is handed to you, sometimes in order to achieve your goals you must go through struggle. It was very eye opening to see that these children were fighting to simply attend school.

I like this photograph because it shows a calm element in a community that is hectic. The Red Light District is filled to the brim with culture and friendly faces. There is always something going on so this picture really captures something out of normality for this community. There is also something going on in all fields of this picture making it visually appealing to the viewer. There is something in the main ground that is covered by a screen that makes it have a short depth of field. Then you see outside the building through the windows into the light. There is some high contrast by the outside of the window but the rest of the picture is a low contrast with lots of grays. I really enjoyed the film. I liked to see the different culture and how people are really living outside of the United States. Its nice to see how people live across the world. It was sad to see the girls who are forced into these brothels at such a young age and being pulled out of there school work. But as the documentary went on, they seemed to have hope and going to that boarding school. They had a fair chance but some were pulled out to keep working in the brothels. Also, seeing the kids work with the cameras was interesting. They had a nice look on the community and captured very well pictures. Overall, I enjoyed watching this documentary,

I really like how the focal point of the picture is the only source of light coming from the window. This is so captivating because the majority of the photo is dark and that is how a lot of the children’s lives in the brothel are very dark as well. The girl leaning her head down symbolizes how difficult the lives of the children from this place are. Not only is the window the focal point is also a symbol of hope, it symbolizes the great life these children have if they got out of the brothel.
I enjoyed watching this film; it really opened my eyes to how difficult some people’s lives around the world are. A lot of people take the stuff that they have for granted and it is not until they see something as inspiring as this movie to realize it. Personally I was not very familiar with how difficult living in a brothel was and after seeing this movie it really opened my eyes to how difficult some people’s lives are. I feel that the message of the film was to appreciate what you have because a lot of people are not as fortunate as people who live in Medfield. – Hunter D
This photo was taken by Puja. I really like the angle the picture was taken from. I like how the tree casts a shadow over itself giving it a very eerie feeling. The shape of the tree and the way its limbs curve around give the photo a very different perspective and make your eyes follow around the photo. In addition, I also like how the colors contrast and make the photo somewhat intriguing. I also enjoy the contrast between the bright sky and the dark tree branches. This contrast makes the tree standout.
I thought Born into Brothels was an okay documentary, but not one of my favorites. I find that constantly reading subtitles gets pretty boring fast. It can take away from visual aspect of the movie because my focus is on the subtitles. I believe the movie was made for a good cause. Some of the kids even had the ability to get out of the brothels and hopefully had the ability to change their lives and live in a better environment.

This is one of my favorite photos that the children took. I really like this photo because it is very simple, but elegant. The light from outside in the top right corner draws in your attention, and the crazy draws your eye down the picture. The window is a very beautiful color and stands out even more beause it is surrounded by the black background. I really liked the movie Born into Brothels. I think it had a really great message. These children were given a special opportunity that children in their situation were not given, and took full advantage of it. It was also interesting that many of them were able to excel grealty at photography, despite their lack of education. I liked that many of them were given the opportunity at a better life, although not all of them seized that opportunity.

I really like this photo for many reasons. Though the subject matter, a cat sitting on a railing, is pretty simple, there is a lot going on in the image. It truly captures the essence of the Red Light District. The buildings are cramped together and in various states of disrepair. Garbage and miscellaneous items are all over the place, and there are cracks in the stone walls. I like how the cat and the cloth stand out in the picture because their soft texture contrasts the hard stone buildings and general lack of life in the background. They give a sense of liveliness and warmth to the miserable brothels. The transition of dark to light from the bottom to the top of the page give a sense of hope from above, and the resting cat gives a sense of peace in the chaotic scene. This photo stood out to me because even though it was taken in a place that is the polar opposite of Medfield, I can still relate to it. The horrible environment and conditions in the Red Light District are like nothing like Medfield, but both places are connected by simple objects such as cats, since they are found in both place.
Often, we tend to ignore the troubles of the rest of the world, since we live in such a privileged community and do not have to worry about them.This film was most powerful to me because it made such a foreign place, a Red Light District in India, feel relatable. It made me realize that the children in the brothels are people too. They play games and feel emotions just like any other kids. The movie caused me to sympathize with these poor kids, because it is not their fault that they were born into brothels. It portrayed a sense of hope, because despite the horrible conditions that the kids live in every day, they continued to smile and have fun. Some of them were even able to rise above all the hardships and escape the brothels altogether. The creator of this documentary truly inspired me because of her work with the kids in the district. I liked this picture for a number of reasons. It's a very contradicting photograph. It shows the girl having fun, smiling, and feeling energetic, but it is in a very dark setting. I see this photograph as a hopeful picture because it shows that even in dark places, there can be happiness. It sends a message that happiness is easier to obtain than expected sometimes. The focal point is obviously the girl jumping and it seems like a snapshot rather than an artistic photograph.
I didn't see much of the film because I was absent the second day we watched it, but from what I saw, it was interesting to see how the kids acted when a photographer showed up and showed them how to take photographs. It was nice to see them have fun even though they had such dark and unfortunate lives. -Aaron Cram

This self-portrait is very interesting. First of all, in a typical self-portrait, the face itsef is in focus and the background is out of focus, but this is the opposite. Because this photo appears to have been taken quickly, time was not taken to focus correcty. But, this adds to the visual interest. Because of the angle of the photo, the narrow street is highlighted as wel as the condition of the buildings in the neighborhood. This photograph sends a strong message about the solemness and complexity of his life. It shows that he is, both literally and metaphorically, out of focus. I enjoyed the movie Born into Brothels because I thought it showed a unique perspective on lives in third world countries. Any other documentary about the Brothels woud only highlight the negative parts of their lives but here we see the hope for a better future for these chidren. -Mackenzie Garrity
I really like this photo because not only is it very well composed, but it truly captures the emotions of the children. It's really inspiring to see that these kids, even living in such a miserable place as a red-light district, can stay positive and have fun. The focal point seems to be the two girls on left, but I also seem to notice the boy on the right almost simultaneously. The setting is rundown and kind of depressing, and the people in the background are very ambiguous. These factors are both very ironic considering the happy subject matter, and add a large sense of contrast to the photo.
Overall, I liked the movie. Although it was depressing at points, and all the children unfortunately did not make it out of the red-light district, it's message was inspiring. It was good to see the photographer travel to India, give these children cameras, and truly make a difference in all of their lives. This is inspiring because, although it's a cliché message, it shows that anybody can change the world if they really put their mind to it.

This is my favorite picture out of the gallery because of the colors. I love how her dress almost blends into the blue wall behind her. Also how ther is still intressed with what is going on around the corner, it gives the photo contrast, and also makes sure she doesnt look like she is inthe center of the photo. This photo has a bery peacful tone that I enjoy, with the cool blues and greens.
Now i would comment on the movie, except, day one we didnt have subtitles and day two I was absent from school... so yeah I have very little idea about what the movie was about. Thought I do intend to see it at somepoint!

I really like this photo. I like how this is a self-portrait of Tapasi because she is so happy. Her emotions contrast the dark and dirty room in the Brothels. In the photo the light is directly on her making Tapasi seem like a ray of light in a very gloomy place. I find this picture hopeful because it is saying that happiness can be found in even the saddest of places. The lines in the background are directing your eye to Tapasi in the center of the page and they create depth.
I really enjoyed the film. I believe the broad message of the film is that even in horrible places there is hope and happiness. Also people anywhere can change their life like Avijit who went from the Red Light Distract to studying at NYU. I love how that photographer had such a huge impact on their lives. She believed in every one of those kids and tried to give them a better future. That is amazing thing to do. It was a sad film and upsetting to see kids being treated so poorly by their families. This photograph intrigued me because of the elephant heads on the see-saw. The artistry behind this mural is truly inspired. It has great composition, where each object leads the eye to the next item. For example the tree on the left side of the building leads my eye up to the bushes and then to the see-saw. The mural displays the children having fun, as well as a couple of mothers working hard for those children.
Born into Brothels opened my eyes to the severity of poverty in India. I knew that there were brothels from other movies I had seen ,but this movie showed me how they affected peoples' lives. The fact that the majority of kids did not go to school was crazy to me because of how different it is in the United States.

I like this photograph in particular, because it shows the kids from Born into Brothels having fun. They have a hard life, living in poverty in India. These kids, were able to take photographs and show what its like, on a daily basis in the red-light district. I like this photograph more than the others, because they are enjoying their time at the beach. All of them, were happy to be taking photographs and to get away from their stress they have at home. Some kids were abused, and its good to see them enjoying the time they have, and having fun.
Born into Brothels was an inspiring movie, showing what life is like in a red-light district. They have a tough life, working a lot and its scary to see it happen to kids at their age. I thought that the movie was very good, and its nice to see that the kids were having a lot of fun taking those photographs. The red-light district looks like a scary place to be living, especially as a kid. They overcame their difficulties and proved that they are great photographers. - John Lewis
This picture catches my eye because it is clear that they captured this with the intent to convey a deeper message. The picture displays the poverty and difficulty of the lives of these children. The facial expression on the boy instills a strong feeling of sympathy into the viewer and gives them insight into the conditions in which these kids are raised. The picture has a negative connotation, it is dark and the only lights are coming from the parts of the child that aren't covered in blood.

I found this picture asthetically interesting because of the mixing of such a clean and simple shot with all of the added colors around. To one it may seem just like a picture of a girl but really there is so much more that goes along with it. It is able to capture a feeling of warmth and serenity when really this girl is living in poverty and horrible conditions. How her facial expression indicates that she is putting on a "happy" face for the camera but hidden behind that miniscule smile lies a scared girl whos future consists of a lifetime of prostitution; any way to create a stable income for her future family. Taking in every piece of information from the photo, though seemingly simple, shows a truely complex piece.
I cannot belive I have not seen this film before! It was absolutely eye-opening to see how other individuals around the world live their lives especially coming from a rather fortunate community. Children living in these brothels did not choose the life they are living, they were delt an unlucky hand of cards to say. For many of the children the cruel reality is that they will forever be damned to a life in the brothels. Yes, I know, it is a rather depressing thought and reality but this film was a great awakening to the rest of humanity to help those in need. Also these lucky children were given the chance to get out of the brothels and a life of poverty through the documentary. The story had a happy ending when we found out that some of the children had escaped and are currently studying in the United States.

I like this photo because there is so much black space yet it has a lot of visual interest. It is very simple in composition but has so much more depth when you start to think about the photo and its meaning. The setting is important also. This child isn’t in jail despite the bared window. Although in a metaphorical sense she is jailed by who her parents are and where she has to grow up. The symbolic nature of this photo makes it my favorite out of the bunch.
I liked the film. It really puts things in prospective. How lucky we are to live in such a nice town and go to a nice school. That seemed to be one of the main points of the film, to stay in school and do your best. The place that these kids had to grow up in was horrible. No child should live in that type of environment. Luckily some were able to escape and fulfill their potential.

I like this photo because its so simple and yet it has so much visual interest. The main thing that I saw first was, of course, the cat but, when I took a closer look I saw the building and the colors of the buildings behind the main building contrast greatly. They are bright colors while the building on the foreground is dark and mysterious. The kids were able to take pictures of things we don't get to see very much and they captured the images of their daily life so well.
The movie was interesting. I haven't decided yet if I liked the movie, it was so sad but so inspiring at the same time. The lives of these kids raised so many questions in my mind. I think it is great that these kids got the chance to use cameras to document what they go through and I think as sad as it is, it is great that those kids took pictures of the happy moments instead of the moments they can't bear to think about.

This photograph catches my attention because of its sharpness and its variation of lights and dark.You can tell by the darkness that sourounds the edge of the photo and the light torwd the top left were you can catch a glimpse of the moon wear the light is coming from. Also the girl in the photo is the man vocal point becuase she is wearing yellow wich is the brightest color in the photo. I also love the great detail in the trees and the little detail but still some , of the moon.
I loved the film becuase it showed kids born and living in a horible place but still being able to find joy in life buy taking these pictures with the help of a women who dedicated her time to these kids. Even though bad things happen in the movie thats said it also shows how these kids were given a chance wich alot of kids who live there would never get.
I like this photo because it almost wants to make me tilt my head. Since the sheep are not going straight across the page it makes the picture different and interesting. I t also helps to guide me down the page to where the man is. I also like the way the sheep are blurry because they are all so similar. Their individual features are not necessarily important because it is a picture of a group of sheep and not just one sheep. I also like the color contrast because the bright pink pops out of the dull beige wool. Yet it also matches the scarf that the man in the corner is wearing. The blurriness also makes it feel as if the sheep are actually running down the street. I think the message of the film is that kids grow up in these terrible places but they are still good kids, with talent, dreams, and voices. They can not always figure these things out on their own. People can help them escape the sad lives that they live as long as they utilize all of the available opportunities. I liked the film because it showed a harsh reality. It showed what really happened without sugarcoating it. I am sad when I watch them but I am always glad that I watched it because otherwise I never know how bad things really are. ~Lilly Beardsley
this picture is by far my favorite from the album that the children took, the picture in my mind can be taken as either very serious, or just plain playful. The photo could be seen as a very serious picture because of the dark shades of the picture as well as the girl running away from the photographer, however anyone who has seen this movie knows that the child is merley playing and running around, happy to be outside like a child should. The picture being taken in black and white also really makes it stand out, if this picture was in color it most likely would be another picture people skim past because all the see is a car and a child running, but when the picture is black and white the picture becomes beautiful with the contrast as well as emotionless. not emotionless to mean the photo has no emotion, but emotionless meaning it is up to the viewer to see whatever emotion they choose from this picture.
i really liked this movie, i beleive the rollercoaster of drama to happiness between the kids and their stories really made it an addicting film. i believe the message of this movie is to show that no matter where children are born or raised that they are still children, full of creativity, adventure, and untouched talent. i really liked how they gave the children happiness while they could and helped them explore their talents so they themselves could accomplish something. all in all it was a sad, but great film. you feel for the children and their situations, but you dont regret hearing their triumphant stories of creativity and happiness.
lindsey kinsellagh This is one of my favorite pictures from the kid’s galley. It captured my attention because I thought it was shot at a good angle and made the picture look off balance. The point of view that this was shot from is from down under which gives a unique point of view. I also like this photo because it shows the struggles of what these kids in the brothels have to go through every day. It shows the kid carrying a bucket and you can tell his surroundings are not sanitary. When I look at these pictures it makes me sad because I see the struggle that the kids have to go through. Finally I enjoy most are the colors in this photo they all come together and blend and the red bucket sticks out catching my attention.
The film born into brothels was an okay film for me. At some parts I got lost because it seemed like the same thing over and over again. The broad message about the film was to expose the struggles and hardships kids in the brothels have to live through. It also showed how photography helped the kids express their emotions in photo and it showed how much interest the kids shared in taking photos. I enjoyed that throughout the film the kids were given educational opportune and chances to get out of the brothels. I did not enjoy that some of the kids who were going to school got pulled out and probably will end up the same way their mothers did.
SYDNEY CORRIGAN I like this picture taken by Tapasi, 11. In the picture she looks like she is dancing. She is laughing and having fun. I like this picture because it shows happiness and gives off positive energy to the viewer, even though she lives in difficult conditions. Her attitude contrasted with the conditions in the room.
The movie we watched in class was very sad but interesting. It was good to see the reality of how they live, even though it was hard to watch at times. I wished they showed more of what the kids did when they got to the school and explained more on why of the kids didn’t stay in school.
CARLY DONOVAN This is a very contradicting photo and there is so much going on in it. It’s a very dark setting room, obviously she comes from a poor country. She looks like she is having fun she is smiling and being silly. This picture gives me hope in some way, the little girl looks like she is having a blast she is having fun and being herself and is not letting her surroundings get in the way of that, she is showing that you can have happiness even if your not extremely rich. She is telling people that there is hope and that even though she comes from a poor family it doesn’t stop her from having fun. The focal point really jumps out you cant miss it it’s the young girl smiling and having a good time and being silly.
I personally really enjoyed the film I loved seeing and learning about how others live. I loved seeing the environment and it was so intriguing to watch these children want to learn about cameras. It was really nice to watch these children learning and having fun.

I find this image absolutely breathtaking due to the simplicity of the scenery. This picture was taken by Kochi, one of the main characters in the film "Born into Brothels." He titled it "silhouette," because it shows the figure of a woman's dark profile against a light background. Out of the album created by the "kids with cameras," this picture stood out the most to me because of the simplicity and defined focal point of the photograph. I really enjoyed this film because it reinforced how life is so different within different parts of the world, and within different cultures and religions. My favorite part of this movie was hearing about the children who managed to live through all of the difficulty in life, grow up to succeed, and carry on to have bright futures. A huge part of me felt really bad for certain children when they did not rise to the offer to create better futures for themselves. Although the children had been living in Brothels their whole lives, does not mean they do not have the chance to turn their fortune around and create a brighter future for themselves. In all, I really enjoyed this film because it exposed me to a different take on both life and photography.
I really loved the photograph of Puja against the car- it reminds me of high-fashion shoots. During the movie I always wanted to keep track of her progress, and I think I was rooting for her above anyone else to make it out of the brothels. That sounds bad, but she really reminded me of this girl that I babysit for- she was so sassy. And there's something so gorgeous about this shot- how all the shades are crisp and clear, the focus gorgeous. Though I loved a lot of the photos for their stunning colors, I don't think this needed any. When I watched the film I was extremely touched by the lives of these children. I know that as a whole, myself and people from this school had extremely priviledged childhoods, but I wasn't completely aware of every reach that we were saved from. These kids lived in hell (some of them still do) and that concept is so sad. I wanted to save them myself. And while they were in these horrible situations, that absolutely no one should have to grow up through, they maintained so much of what our childhoods were- full of wonder and curiousity and creativity. It's amazing how strong they were that they could keep their innocence in a world so opposed to it.

This photo has matching colors, simple and complex areas, and vibrant interesting colors. I love how the photo doesnt just include the wall behind the girl but a little bit of the world behind her. It makes you wonder where she is, what she is doing there, and what connection it has to the little girl. The photo also shows some kind of culture by her clothing. Her facial expression looks forced. She looks like she is trying to look happy for the picture but maybe there is more behind it. The truth behind theses kids is that they all live horrible lives and photography can help them escape for a while. I thought the film was very inspiring but sad. It just makes me think about how fortunate i am and what I can do to help others. Its hard when issues involving these kids happen so far away and there isnt much you can do. The girl who teaches them to take photos found something she could do to help. I particularly like this photo for many reasons. One reason I like this image is because all of the children look so happy and are really enjoying themselves. This is positive because of the lives they lead which are hard for children of their age. The image also looks sort of abstract because of the background. The background looks like it has been twisted and is crooked. The background is also out of focus so that you can still see what is going on but you pay more attention to just the children. The placement of the kids in the photo is most likely not deliberate but it looks professional with the two girls over to the side and then the boy more towards the center. Overall, I found the film interesting. I thought that the best part was hearing about what happened to the children when they had all grown up and was happy to know that some of them went on to improve their lives while they had the chance.
This image taken by one of the children in the brothels is my favorite for various reasons. First off, i like how the image is black and white rather than in color, because the viewer is still able to get a strong feeling from this image without bright colors to show details. The high contrast and placement of all the objects in the photograph makes it visually interesting to the viewer, for example the placement of the car in the corner of the photo. It runs off the image, leading the eye in different directions. The girl running also adds creativity and curiosity to the photograph. It makes the viewer wonder where she is running too, or if she is running from something. The photographer managed to allow the girl to be clear, as well as the surroundings clear as well.
I enjoyed the video Born into Brothels, not only becuase it was suspencful and intruiging but it also had parts of it that were happy and hopeful. It is a very moving video and just by watching and i wanted to see more of the children's work and know what happened to them beyond just the film. Having it be a topic that many people dont know about, it allows the film to be very interesting and moving, which is why i enjoyed it as much as i did. It opens the eye to a different point of view as far as photography goes, and i appreciate being able to see such a different and unique way of seeing this.

The picture of the hope valley were the girls can have a place of calm really stood out o me. it shows that there is hope for them and they are not alone in there current situation. they created it so that 100 girls could feel safe and get away from the traggic life in the brothels. they can go here and be open and express any sort of stress and grief that they are experiencing and feel that state of calm that they once had. randy krupnick
I truly enjoyed the video since it captures the human eye and showed us if we are going thru tought times. that we arent the only ones expereinceing a sense of tough times. it was a touching video to see such young kids workign and living in these enviorments. the movie also was moving because these kids are so young and do not know from right and wrong. they went thru alot with testing of diseases such as aids and hiv. overall the movie was enjoyable. randy krupnick
I enjoy this photograph for many reasons. First, in the kids situation that they live in, it appears they are enjoying themselves. The kids are making their lives emjoyable, even though they do not have much money or resources, the kids are enjoying their lives. Also, i like how the kids and their smiles are the main focus, while there are other objects and people that are blurry in the backround. The black and white and the contrast of the photo also is appropiate for the photo. I feel as if the picture were in color, the true essence of the photo would mot be apparent.
The documentary was not one of my favorites. Although i do feel bad for the kids, and i am happy that they got to take pictures, i felt as the documentary was very boring. I felt it was dry and could have been located in any poor village somewhere in the world. Watching the living sitautins though and seeing how there daily lives were spent, i felt bad for the kids and wish them a betten life through photography. PAUL ADAMS
I like this photo for a few reasons. First of all, it was taken from an up close, straight on point of view. The photographer placed the focal point (the man) a little to the left of the center of the frame, adding to the visual composition of the photo. The picture shows a small piece of life in India, exemplifying the main way of transportation, walking. The truck in the middle ground adds color to the photo as well as making it more interesting to look at. Lastly, the photo shows us how people dressed, often in ragged clothes or dresses, and for those reasons this photo is interesting to me.
I enjoyed the documentary film we watched in class. I found that the film informed us as viewers on the lives of those less fortunate than us, and more specificly the lives of those living in brothels. The film gave me a small yet informative sense of what it is like for the children and adults born and living in brothels. It showed how hard their lives were and what they have to go through every day. The video caused me to realize how fortunate we are, for there are kids in India being born with all sorts of diseases, into families that can not raise their children properly, and in horrible, unsanitary conditions.

I really like this photo because it s a quick snapshot but it shows a lot of emotion. The young girl’s face is full of excitement and hope. The bright yellow taxicab creates an interesting frame around her face. I also like how the sun is reflecting on top of the car. The hand pointing at the girl draws the eye to the girl and creates some depth. I like how you can only really see the girl, the car and the hand and not that much else because it makes the picture appear, bright, cheerful and sunny. If you zoomed out and were able to see the whole picture you would probably see the poor, dirty and dark streets that make up the red light district. I think it would take away from the uplifting feel that the photo has when it only has the car and the girl.
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was informative and showed a great deal of insight on a different and troubling part of the world. Although it was dark and had some troubling scenes, I think it also showed some light and hopeful scenes. It also shows what a little support and creativity can do for a young child. I think it was a good mix of the terrible life living in the brothel but it was also cheerful and encouraging. I thought the end was sad for some kids how they ended up back in the brothel but it shows how difficult it is to get out of that kind of life and world. Overall, I thought it was interesting from the photographic perspective but also just the lives of the kids and their stories were interesting.

In this photo there are two bunnies chasing each other. I really liked this photo because when I saw it made me feel happy and cheered me up from all the other harsh and disturbing photos. I also liked this photo because the whole picture is very dark except from the bright white rabbits and it is like they are almost glowing. The photographer was clearly focusing in on the two rabbits while using a very good black and white contrast. This picture is also an action shot because the rabbits are walking forward. The kids were always being treated poorly and this picture shows that they could at least play with these rabbits to help them cope with all the other harsh treatment.
I really like Born into Brothels because it was not only inspiring but it showed how nothings impossible and if you work hard you can achieve anything that you want. This documentary also showed me how kids across the county are living and how hard they work. This photograph is my favorite for several reasons. One being the fact that this photo incorporates the children, and in their natural environment, the old and chipping building in the background. The main reason i like this photo is because the children are smiling, and even laughing. These smiles are so important because it reveals happiness and a remainder of childhood, in the difficult and painful lives of these children.
I really enjoyed the movie because it did not attempt to hide the reality of the brothels. These children and the other children in the brothels and around the world live incredibly hard lives, and look to a future of struggles and pain as well. So it made me happy to see the opportunities given to some of these children to pursue their talents and go to better schools. The movie really made me have an even greater appreciation for the opportunity and love that i was born into.

This photo by Kochi is really captivating to me. It is not only a silhouette, but displaying a depth of field as well. The whole left and right side of the image is utter darkness, not being in focus. The contrast of the primarily black image and the light coming from outside through the window is remarkable. Seeing the photo creates a feeling of sadness and despair because you feel bad for this child sitting alone in the darkness. Unfortunately, it captures the essence of life in the Brothels. Without this strong emotion in the picture, it may just be dull, say if it was just a flower in the dark room. The barred window also accentuates the feeling of sadness of the child, almost as if they are trapped inside and cannot play in the brightness.
Overall, I really enjoyed watching the documentary Born into Brothels because it opened your eyes to real, innopportune circumstances. The poor children did not choose a life of hardship for themselves, and in most cases there is nothing they can do about it, forced to live a life without opportunity. Although this movie was extremely sad, it was nice to watch how much photography meant to them and could give them hope of having an alternate choice in life. Seeing the poverty also made me realize how lucky we are and sometimes take advantage of how fortunate we as Americans actually are. It is hard to believe that education isn't even an option for most of these children. Hopefully one day more and more children will be able to escape the everday horrors of Brothels life.

I like this particular photo because it seems to showcase a message of pure joy. Throughout the documentary, the kids were shown in difficult family situations however this photo captures something beyond what we over in America hear about them. It captures their happiness and relaxation rather than focusing on the negatives in their life. Additionally, when speaking artistically, the composition itself is so unique. Capturing motion from the bucket’s water, the children and the waves, yet also leaving a large part of the photo as the sky, still and calm; the picture is inspiring.
I enjoyed the film itself. I have never seen a documentary like this, or any documentary on people before. It opened my eyes to children beyond this continent. In my opinion, the message it was trying to send was one of hope, and the ability to make a difference. The one photographer touched the lives of all those children positively and strived to help them escape their hard lives or their futures before them. I liked how the children’s pictures were shown and they were very open with their feelings. My favorite part was when the kids saw their pictures on display and were so proud and pleased. This image is one of my favorites in the set. I love how the only source of light is coming through the window with the bars on it. The silhouette of the girl in the window is beautiful as well. I feel that the very dark photograph along with the girls bowed head gives the photo a feeling of sorrow and remembrance. However, it is a peaceful feeling. Almost as if she is finding a place of quiet in the hectic life of the brothel.
I enjoyed watching this documentary. It really struck me how real it all seemed. Living in Medfield, sometimes it is hard to remember that there actually is struggle out in the world, and even children have to face terrible realities in life. In our community it is easy to forget that not everything is handed to you, sometimes in order to achieve your goals you must go through struggle. It was very eye opening to see that these children were fighting to simply attend school.

I like this photograph because it shows a calm element in a community that is hectic. The Red Light District is filled to the brim with culture and friendly faces. There is always something going on so this picture really captures something out of normality for this community. There is also something going on in all fields of this picture making it visually appealing to the viewer. There is something in the main ground that is covered by a screen that makes it have a short depth of field. Then you see outside the building through the windows into the light. There is some high contrast by the outside of the window but the rest of the picture is a low contrast with lots of grays.
I really enjoyed the film. I liked to see the different culture and how people are really living outside of the United States. Its nice to see how people live across the world. It was sad to see the girls who are forced into these brothels at such a young age and being pulled out of there school work. But as the documentary went on, they seemed to have hope and going to that boarding school. They had a fair chance but some were pulled out to keep working in the brothels. Also, seeing the kids work with the cameras was interesting. They had a nice look on the community and captured very well pictures. Overall, I enjoyed watching this documentary,

I really like how the focal point of the picture is the only source of light coming from the window. This is so captivating because the majority of the photo is dark and that is how a lot of the children’s lives in the brothel are very dark as well. The girl leaning her head down symbolizes how difficult the lives of the children from this place are. Not only is the window the focal point is also a symbol of hope, it symbolizes the great life these children have if they got out of the brothel.
I enjoyed watching this film; it really opened my eyes to how difficult some people’s lives around the world are. A lot of people take the stuff that they have for granted and it is not until they see something as inspiring as this movie to realize it. Personally I was not very familiar with how difficult living in a brothel was and after seeing this movie it really opened my eyes to how difficult some people’s lives are. This photo was taken by Puja. I really like the angle the picture was taken from. I like how the tree casts a shadow over itself giving it a very eerie feeling. The shape of the tree and the way its limbs curve around give the photo a very different perspective and make your eyes follow around the photo. In addition, I also like how the colors contrast and make the photo somewhat intriguing. I also enjoy the contrast between the bright sky and the dark tree branches. This contrast makes the tree standout.
I thought Born into Brothels was an okay documentary, but not one of my favorites. I find that constantly reading subtitles gets pretty boring fast. It can take away from visual aspect of the movie because my focus is on the subtitles. I believe the movie was made for a good cause. Some of the kids even had the ability to get out of the brothels and hopefully had the ability to change their lives and live in a better environment.

This is one of my favorite photos that the children took. I really like this photo because it is very simple, but elegant. The light from outside in the top right corner draws in your attention, and the crazy draws your eye down the picture. The window is a very beautiful color and stands out even more beause it is surrounded by the black background. I really liked the movie Born into Brothels. I think it had a really great message. These children were given a special opportunity that children in their situation were not given, and took full advantage of it. It was also interesting that many of them were able to excel grealty at photography, despite their lack of education. I liked that many of them were given the opportunity at a better life, although not all of them seized that opportunity.

I really like this photo for many reasons. Though the subject matter, a cat sitting on a railing, is pretty simple, there is a lot going on in the image. It truly captures the essence of the Red Light District. The buildings are cramped together and in various states of disrepair. Garbage and miscellaneous items are all over the place, and there are cracks in the stone walls. I like how the cat and the cloth stand out in the picture because their soft texture contrasts the hard stone buildings and general lack of life in the background. They give a sense of liveliness and warmth to the miserable brothels. The transition of dark to light from the bottom to the top of the page give a sense of hope from above, and the resting cat gives a sense of peace in the chaotic scene. This photo stood out to me because even though it was taken in a place that is the polar opposite of Medfield, I can still relate to it. The horrible environment and conditions in the Red Light District are like nothing like Medfield, but both places are connected by simple objects such as cats, since they are found in both place.
Often, we tend to ignore the troubles of the rest of the world, since we live in such a privileged community and do not have to worry about them.This film was most powerful to me because it made such a foreign place, a Red Light District in India, feel relatable. It made me realize that the children in the brothels are people too. They play games and feel emotions just like any other kids. The movie caused me to sympathize with these poor kids, because it is not their fault that they were born into brothels. It portrayed a sense of hope, because despite the horrible conditions that the kids live in every day, they continued to smile and have fun. Some of them were even able to rise above all the hardships and escape the brothels altogether. The creator of this documentary truly inspired me because of her work with the kids in the district.

I liked this picture for a number of reasons. It's a very contradicting photograph. It shows the girl having fun, smiling, and feeling energetic, but it is in a very dark setting. I see this photograph as a hopeful picture because it shows that even in dark places, there can be happiness. It sends a message that happiness is easier to obtain than expected sometimes. The focal point is obviously the girl jumping and it seems like a snapshot rather than an artistic photograph.
I didn't see much of the film because I was absent the second day we watched it, but from what I saw, it was interesting to see how the kids acted when a photographer showed up and showed them how to take photographs. It was nice to see them have fun even though they had such dark and unfortunate lives.

This self-portrait is very interesting. First of all, in a typical self-portrait, the face itsef is in focus and the background is out of focus, but this is the opposite. Because this photo appears to have been taken quickly, time was not taken to focus correcty. But, this adds to the visual interest. Because of the angle of the photo, the narrow street is highlighted as wel as the condition of the buildings in the neighborhood. This photograph sends a strong message about the solemness and complexity of his life. It shows that he is, both literally and metaphorically, out of focus. I enjoyed the movie Born into Brothels because I thought it showed a unique perspective on lives in third world countries. Any other documentary about the Brothels woud only highlight the negative parts of their lives but here we see the hope for a better future for these chidren.

I really like this photo because not only is it very well composed, but it truly captures the emotions of the children. It's really inspiring to see that these kids, even living in such a miserable place as a red-light district, can stay positive and have fun. The focal point seems to be the two girls on left, but I also seem to notice the boy on the right almost simultaneously. The setting is rundown and kind of depressing, and the people in the background are very ambiguous. These factors are both very ironic considering the happy subject matter, and add a large sense of contrast to the photo.
Overall, I liked the movie. Although it was depressing at points, and all the children unfortunately did not make it out of the red-light district, it's message was inspiring. It was good to see the photographer travel to India, give these children cameras, and truly make a difference in all of their lives. This is inspiring because, although it's a cliché message, it shows that anybody can change the world if they really put their mind to it.

This is my favorite picture out of the gallery because of the colors. I love how her dress almost blends into the blue wall behind her. Also how ther is still intressed with what is going on around the corner, it gives the photo contrast, and also makes sure she doesnt look like she is inthe center of the photo. This photo has a bery peacful tone that I enjoy, with the cool blues and greens.
Now i would comment on the movie, except, day one we didnt have subtitles and day two I was absent from school... so yeah I have very little idea about what the movie was about. Thought I do intend to see it at somepoint!

I really like this photo. I like how this is a self-portrait of Tapasi because she is so happy. Her emotions contrast the dark and dirty room in the Brothels. In the photo the light is directly on her making Tapasi seem like a ray of light in a very gloomy place. I find this picture hopeful because it is saying that happiness can be found in even the saddest of places. The lines in the background are directing your eye to Tapasi in the center of the page and they create depth.
I really enjoyed the film. I believe the broad message of the film is that even in horrible places there is hope and happiness. Also people anywhere can change their life like Avijit who went from the Red Light Distract to studying at NYU. I love how that photographer had such a huge impact on their lives. She believed in every one of those kids and tried to give them a better future. That is amazing thing to do. It was a sad film and upsetting to see kids being treated so poorly by their families. But it was hopeful at the same time because the kids were happy and they trying to change their lives.

This photograph intrigued me because of the elephant heads on the see-saw. The artistry behind this mural is truly inspired. It has great composition, where each object leads the eye to the next item. For example the tree on the left side of the building leads my eye up to the bushes and then to the see-saw. The mural displays the children having fun, as well as a couple of mothers working hard for those children.
Born into Brothels opened my eyes to the severity of poverty in India. I knew that there were brothels from other movies I had seen ,but this movie showed me how they affected peoples' lives. The fact that the majority of kids did not go to school was crazy to me because of how different it is in the United States.

I like this photograph in particular, because it shows the kids from Born into Brothels having fun. They have a hard life, living in poverty in India. These kids, were able to take photographs and show what its like, on a daily basis in the red-light district. I like this photograph more than the others, because they are enjoying their time at the beach. All of them, were happy to be taking photographs and to get away from their stress they have at home. Some kids were abused, and its good to see them enjoying the time they have, and having fun.
Born into Brothels was an inspiring movie, showing what life is like in a red-light district. They have a tough life, working a lot and its scary to see it happen to kids at their age. I thought that the movie was very good, and its nice to see that the kids were having a lot of fun taking those photographs. This picture catches my eye because it is clear that they captured this with the intent to convey a deeper message. The picture displays the poverty and difficulty of the lives of these children. The facial expression on the boy instills a strong feeling of sympathy into the viewer and gives them insight into the conditions in which these kids are raised. The picture has a negative connotation, it is dark and the only lights are coming from the parts of the child that aren't covered in blood.

I found this picture asthetically interesting because of the mixing of such a clean and simple shot with all of the added colors around. To one it may seem just like a picture of a girl but really there is so much more that goes along with it. It is able to capture a feeling of warmth and serenity when really this girl is living in poverty and horrible conditions. How her facial expression indicates that she is putting on a "happy" face for the camera but hidden behind that miniscule smile lies a scared girl whos future consists of a lifetime of prostitution; any way to create a stable income for her future family. Taking in every piece of information from the photo, though seemingly simple, shows a truely complex piece.
I cannot belive I have not seen this film before! It was absolutely eye-opening to see how other individuals around the world live their lives especially coming from a rather fortunate community. Children living in these brothels did not choose the life they are living, they were delt an unlucky hand of cards to say. For many of the children the cruel reality is that they will forever be damned to a life in the brothels. Yes, I know, it is a rather depressing thought and reality but this film was a great awakening to the rest of humanity to help those in need. Also these lucky children were given the chance to get out of the brothels and a life of poverty through the documentary. The story had a happy ending when we found out that some of the children had escaped and are currently studying in the United States.

I like this photo because there is so much black space yet it has a lot of visual interest. It is very simple in composition but has so much more depth when you start to think about the photo and its meaning. The setting is important also. This child isn’t in jail despite the bared window. Although in a metaphorical sense she is jailed by who her parents are and where she has to grow up. The symbolic nature of this photo makes it my favorite out of the bunch.
I liked the film. It really puts things in prospective. How lucky we are to live in such a nice town and go to a nice school. That seemed to be one of the main points of the film, to stay in school and do your best. The place that these kids had to grow up in was horrible. No child should live in that type of environment. Luckily some were able to escape and fulfill their potential.

I like this photo because its so simple and yet it has so much visual interest. The main thing that I saw first was, of course, the cat but, when I took a closer look I saw the building and the colors of the buildings behind the main building contrast greatly. They are bright colors while the building on the foreground is dark and mysterious. The kids were able to take pictures of things we don't get to see very much and they captured the images of their daily life so well.
The movie was interesting. I haven't decided yet if I liked the movie, it was so sad but so inspiring at the same time. The lives of these kids raised so many questions in my mind. I think it is great that these kids got the chance to use cameras to document what they go through and I think as sad as it is, it is great that those kids took pictures of the happy moments instead of the moments they can't bear to think about.

This photograph catches my attention because of its sharpness and its variation of lights and dark.You can tell by the darkness that sourounds the edge of the photo and the light torwd the top left were you can catch a glimpse of the moon wear the light is coming from. Also the girl in the photo is the man vocal point becuase she is wearing yellow wich is the brightest color in the photo. I also love the great detail in the trees and the little detail but still some , of the moon.
I loved the film becuase it showed kids born and living in a horible place but still being able to find joy in life buy taking these pictures with the help of a women who dedicated her time to these kids. Even though bad things happen in the movie thats said it also shows how these kids were given a chance wich alot of kids who live there would never get.
I like this photo because it almost wants to make me tilt my head. Since the sheep are not going straight across the page it makes the picture different and interesting. I t also helps to guide me down the page to where the man is. I also like the way the sheep are blurry because they are all so similar. Their individual features are not necessarily important because it is a picture of a group of sheep and not just one sheep. I also like the color contrast because the bright pink pops out of the dull beige wool. Yet it also matches the scarf that the man in the corner is wearing. The blurriness also makes it feel as if the sheep are actually running down the street.
I think the message of the film is that kids grow up in these terrible places but they are still good kids, with talent, dreams, and voices. They can not always figure these things out on their own. People can help them escape the sad lives that they live as long as they utilize all of the available opportunities. I liked the film because it showed a harsh reality. It showed what really happened without sugarcoating it. I am sad when I watch them but I am always glad that I watched it because otherwise I never know how bad things really are.

this picture is by far my favorite from the album that the children took, the picture in my mind can be taken as either very serious, or just plain playful. The photo could be seen as a very serious picture because of the dark shades of the picture as well as the girl running away from the photographer, however anyone who has seen this movie knows that the child is merley playing and running around, happy to be outside like a child should. The picture being taken in black and white also really makes it stand out, if this picture was in color it most likely would be another picture people skim past because all the see is a car and a child running, but when the picture is black and white the picture becomes beautiful with the contrast as well as emotionless. not emotionless to mean the photo has no emotion, but emotionless meaning it is up to the viewer to see whatever emotion they choose from this picture.
i really liked this movie, i beleive the rollercoaster of drama to happiness between the kids and their stories really made it an addicting film. i believe the message of this movie is to show that no matter where children are born or raised that they are still children, full of creativity, adventure, and untouched talent. i really liked how they gave the children happiness while they could and helped them explore their talents so they themselves could accomplish something. all in all it was a sad, but great film. you feel for the children and their situations, but you dont regret hearing their triumphant stories of creativity and happiness.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the kid’s galley. It captured my attention because I thought it was shot at a good angle and made the picture look off balance. The point of view that this was shot from is from down under which gives a unique point of view. I also like this photo because it shows the struggles of what these kids in the brothels have to go through every day. It shows the kid carrying a bucket and you can tell his surroundings are not sanitary. When I look at these pictures it makes me sad because I see the struggle that the kids have to go through. Finally I enjoy most are the colors in this photo they all come together and blend and the red bucket sticks out catching my attention.
The film born into brothels was an okay film for me. At some parts I got lost because it seemed like the same thing over and over again. The broad message about the film was to expose the struggles and hardships kids in the brothels have to live through. It also showed how photography helped the kids express their emotions in photo and it showed how much interest the kids shared in taking photos. I enjoyed that throughout the film the kids were given educational opportune and chances to get out of the brothels. I did not enjoy that some of the kids who were going to school got pulled out and probably will end up the same way their mothers did.
I like this picture taken by Tapasi, 11. In the picture she looks like she is dancing. She is laughing and having fun. I like this picture because it shows happiness and gives off positive energy to the viewer, even though she lives in difficult conditions. Her attitude contrasted with the conditions in the room.
The movie we watched in class was very sad but interesting. It was good to see the reality of how they live, even though it was hard to watch at times. I wished they showed more of what the kids did when they got to the school and explained more on why of the kids didn’t stay in school.

This is a very contradicting photo and there is so much going on in it. It’s a very dark setting room, obviously she comes from a poor country. She looks like she is having fun she is smiling and being silly. This picture gives me hope in some way, the little girl looks like she is having a blast she is having fun and being herself and is not letting her surroundings get in the way of that, she is showing that you can have happiness even if your not extremely rich. She is telling people that there is hope and that even though she comes from a poor family it doesn’t stop her from having fun. The focal point really jumps out you cant miss it it’s the young girl smiling and having a good time and being silly.
I personally really enjoyed the film I loved seeing and learning about how others live. I loved seeing the environment and it was so intriguing to watch these children want to learn about cameras. It was really nice to watch these children learning and having fun.

I find this image absolutely breathtaking due to the simplicity of the scenery. This picture was taken by
Kochi, one of the main characters in the film "Born into Brothels." He titled it "silhouette," because it shows the
figure of a woman's dark profile against a light background. Out of the album created by the "kids with cameras,"
this picture stood out the most to me because of the simplicity and defined focal point of the photograph. I really
enjoyed this film because it reinforced how life is so different within different parts of the world, and within different
cultures and religions. My favorite part of this movie was hearing about the children who managed to live through
all of the difficulty in life, grow up to succeed, and carry on to have bright futures. A huge part of me felt really bad
for certain children when they did not rise to the offer to create better futures for themselves. Although the children
had been living in Brothels their whole lives, does not mean they do not have the chance to turn their fortune around
and create a brighter future for themselves. In all, I really enjoyed this film because it exposed me to a different take
on both life and photography.
